ANNAGASSAN: THE SECOND ANNUAL STAND
Sunday, 9th August 2009

Say the name “Annagassan” and most people respond with: “Who?”, “What?”, “Where?” But I have a feeling that in the coming years the town will become a household word. What a setting! What fun! Such enthusiasm and drive from visitors and exhibitors alike; it is positively infectious. Dermot Alford laboured away to do the layout of the ring for us and also provided the judges’ tent, table and chairs. What a star.

This year the weather was mostly kind to us and we had a super entry. Our judge, Colette Muldoon, said afterwards that she would be delighted to do this again a few years down the line, and who can fault her? The throng of spectators around the ring watched proceeding with great interest and applauded loudly for every class. The spur-of-the-moment ‘Dolly Mix’ class was received with much enthusiasm and evoked smiles and admiration from all. Such a success surely has to be repeated. The winner of this class was the Alaskan Malamute Tolkin, owned by Des Reynolds. Well done to all!

Many thanks to Colette for a job well done. Her relaxed, friendly and professional manner put everyone at ease, and our steward for the day, David Connelly, took a load of work off our hands and made it look so easy. Thank you, David. Our brilliant announcer was Mrs O’Neill. It is hard to believe that this was her first appointment.

Cathriona Hartley most generously purchased the measuring stick and the tape measure for our highlight event and, as ever, Jim Behan did a stirling job in assisting with the measurements. Thanks ever so much to both of you.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the following organisations for their generous sponsorship: -

o Equipet
o Horseware
o Westgate Veterinary Clinic
o Annagassan Viking Festival Committee
