Lure Coursing - an introduction

Have you ever thought about lure-coursing your Wolfhound? In many countries lure coursing is a very popular and quite competitive sport, valued both as a legitimate outlet for our hounds' hunting instinct and as a complement to the concentration on type in the show ring. Whether you are just interested in the occasional afternoon of fun for your hound and yourself or you want to get involved in a more competitive way, here is your chance to find out about this great sport. We are all beginners, there is a great opportunity to learn and have fun together and it does not make any difference whether you own a Show Champion or just a "Pet".

Canine Behaviour Modification and Training for everyday life and show

Whether training your hounds for every day life or for show, we all sometimes need advice on problems we encounter. Our expert will be there to answer your questions and help with practical demonstrations. How do you start off a puppy for lead training or for show? How to solve problems encountered at home or in public but most importantly, how to have a happy and relaxed relationship with your hounds; we welcome your questions on the day or, if you prefer, in advance to the Secretary via our feed-back feature at www.IWSOI.com

Grooming Workshop

Do you shudder at the thought of grooming your hound in advance of a show or when a prolonged spell of dirty weather has left your hound with a less than impressive appearance? Experienced hands will take you through the process of grooming your hound in amazingly easy steps and reveal their tricks and which tools they use.

Importing semen and Artificial Insemination

Importing frozen semen for artificial insemination has become a reality in recent years. Which implications this fact has for the future development of our breed here in Ireland may be the subject of a discussion to be hosted by the IWSoI at a future date. On this occasion we try to have expert advice available for all who are interested in the actual procedure of how to import semen as well as all veterinary aspects of artificial insemination. Breeder(s) who have produced AI-litters with imported semen will be glad to pass on their first hand experience.

Insurance

If you as a hound owner are concerned about public liability for your hound, a representative of the
Countryside Alliance Ireland will be there to inform us about insurance matters.

Q&A - Whatever you want to ask, this will be the time.

Please bring your family and hounds for a day of fun and information. Light refreshments will be available. Most of the events will be held indoors, which may help in the unlikely event of bad weather at the end of January. (But - Wellies are essential!)

We look forward to seeing you there.
For directions see below ::

Kilmoone Cross Athletic Club is situated just off the N 2 between Slane and Ashbourne.

From Dublin:

Follow M 2 towards Derry.
After Ashbourne bypass, the M 4 ends in a roundabout.
Take 1st exit, following signs for Derry.
After approx 4.5 miles there is a Statoil Filling Station to the right.
Watch for "Snailbox Pub" on the left and green sign for N 2 Derry and sign for R 152.
Go into the filter lane for a right turn on to R 152, signed for Drogheda & Duleek.
There is another Petrol Station at that junction, on the right.
Look for sign for "Pudden Hill Activity Centre" and "Indoor Carting" on your right.
Opposite is a lane to your left, leading to the Kilmoone Cross Athletic Club.
Note: if you come to a sign "Cherry Picker" on the N 2 you have gone too far. Turn around and look for left turn into R 152.

From the Northwest (Derry):

Travel down the N 2 through Slane, then look for sign for "Cherry Pickers" on right side of road.
Take the next turn left, after the sign, on to R 152 towards Drogheda & Duleek, then follow as above.

From the Northeast:

Come off the M1 at junction Drogheda South..
Take 2nd exit off roundabout.
Take 3rd exit off next roundabout.
Go under bridge.
Take 2nd exit of next roundabout.
You are now on the R 152, continue until you see the sign for "Pudden Hill Activity Centre and Indoor Carting" on your left. Turn right into laneway to Kilmoone Cross Athletic Centre.

From the Southeast (via Mullingar):

Go to and straight through Navan.
Turn right on to the N3 at a traffic light, towards Dublin, then turn immediately left at next traffic light direction Duleek.
Follow that road until you meet the N 2. At the STOP sign turn right towards Dublin.
Then follow the direction as from Derry, above. (the R 152 is the 3rd turn to the left.)
