November 2006 Walk In The Park
Photo Gallery
Our first outing as the IWSOI was a great success for mainly three
reasons:
The beautiful weather—the only dry and sunny day in the middle of
rainy and stormy weeks—
The plentiful turnout of hounds with their owners, and last but not
least,
The great company with lots of talking, laughing and getting to know
each other.
After missing the correct turn off and a bit of cross country
driving, everyone met up in the parking area of Tullynally Castle
where legs were stretched (and bladders emptied ) and smiles
practiced for the group photographs taken by our lovely Chairperson
Ika Peiler.
Then we set off into the sun filled gardens and woodlands of the
magnificent Castle.
On our trail we encountered wildlife ranging from Mallards to
‘Crocodiles’. The members of the public we met greatly admired the
hounds.
The odd obstacles were mastered with ease, most of the time. Anne
O’Keeffe’s puppy who was on his very first outing had some
reservations at some hurdles, but with a little help from his
friends he also made it through.
The dogs were on their best behaviour and loved the walk with all
the new and exciting smells a lot.
After a beautiful relaxing walk with lots of fresh air, we gathered
back in the car park and drove as a convoy to Heidi and Alan
Bolte-Charles’ house for refreshments and more chat.
I’m sure everyone had a brilliant time.
At this point I’d like to thank everyone involved for their work,
time and participation.
A special thank you to the Pakenhams for letting us use their lovely
estate for our first outing. We hope to be able to return some time
in the future. For more information on the Castle, please visit
their website: www.tullynallycastle.com
We would also like to express our appreciation of Heidi and Alan’s
hospitality and warm welcome in their home.
All in all the day was perfect. Our President Anne O’Keeffe was
“well informed” when she picked this Sun-Day so many weeks in
advance!
Hoping to see you and your hounds again in the New Year at our next
venture, which will be held on the last Sunday in January, most
likely indoors (venue to be announced later).
We plan to have Ulli Peiler there to give us an insight into our
hounds’ minds and what makes them tick in sync with us, to help us
understand and communicate with our hounds so that we all understand
them better and can have even more fun with them. And if the Weather
Gods should bless us again with a dry and pleasant day, we will also
have an introduction to lure coursing. So watch this space for
further details.
