Warning - Deadly Pet Toys

 

There are many different types of these so-called 'pet rag" chew toys for dogs similar to the  photos below. 

 

One brand name is “Pet Rag Ropes.”  They are made in China from scraps of cotton. There are many versions, with some versions even impregnated with "beef" flavour.

 

Do not give these "toys" to your Irish Wolfhound -- or any dog for that matter. They are unsafe as playthings, regardless of “veterinary approval.”

 

An IWSOI Member recently lost two promising IW puppies at age 5½ months.

 

Chewing the “toy,” the puppies unravelled and swallowed the threads. The long fibres are not digestible.  They lodged in their intestines and caused perforations.  There were no immediate symptoms.  The vet operated but it was too late.
